SAN JOSE STATE UNIVERSITY
MS, Computer Engineering / MS, Computer Science
Why this course - About Computer Engineering - Located in the center of Silicon Valley, the Department of Computer Engineering provides local and national high-tech companies with high quality, practice-oriented computer graduates. Bachelor's and master's degrees are offered in both computer engineering and software engineering. Course topics range from computer hardware design and embedded systems to software design and the construction of real and virtual systems for enterprises. Curriculum integrates concepts and hands-on practice using the latest developments in emerging technologies, design, verification, implementation, and computer systems applications to provide students with advanced hardware and software skills. High-tech companies seek out our graduates. Our alumni work in hardware/software analysis, design and verification, hardware/software co-design, systems software, domain applications and product testing at many Silicon Valley firms from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies. The BS Computer Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET
Future - SJSU provides more workforce to Silicon Valley companies than any other university (#1 at Cisco, #1 at Apple).
Thousands of high-tech companies are headquartered within 40km of SJSU campus.
SJSU Computer Engineering is a top-ranked program among public institutions offering BS and MS degrees, by US News and World Report. (ranked #1 in 2014).
The department provides hands-on learning experience in cutting edge areas for computer and software engineering.
The computer engineering and software engineering programs prepare you for a professional career at companies from small startups to multinational corporations.
Future - Information security has been identified as a top priority for executives of Australian companies and organisations. Graduate ready for your career as a:
MS, Software Engineering, Concentration in Cyber security
Why this course - The Masters of Science in Software Engineering program is one of several degree programs provided by the Computer Engineering department at SJSU. The program provides students with an educational experience that builds on traditional computer science and engineering, and then takes an integrative approach to software engineering. With the increased globalization of the software development workforce there is less programming being performed in the United States. Therefore it becomes increasingly important that graduates understand developing technologies and architectures and their influence on software engineering processes, where large-scale design is pre-eminent, and where component integration is the standard mode of development. The program offers a strong testing and quality assurance component.
The software industry increasingly requires those with a suitable engineering background for their cutting edge projects. Graduates with an MS in Software Engineering can expect to find significant opportunities in software development, management, and marketing.
A wide variety of computing equipment is available. Courses are usually conducted using the specialized equipment at the department, with a variety of sophisticated workstations and state-of-the-art software engineering tools.
The Masters of Science in Software Engineering program requirements include degree core, specialization classes, electives, and a culminating experience.
Future - Five specializations are provided:
Molecular and Cell Biology MS
Why this course - The Master of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology begins with core courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and quantitative biology. Students may have the opportunity to conduct experimental or computational research in a laboratory of their choosing and to write a research dissertation. Research in the department of Biological Sciences is organized into five areas of strength, which are: Biochemistry and Biophysics Genomics, Systems and Computational Biology Microbiology Molecular and Cell Biology Pathobiology (cancer, neurobiology, infectious disease)
Future - Graduates of the program seek positions such as:
Bioinformatics and Computational Biology MS
Why this course - The Master of Science in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is an interdisciplinary program offered jointly by the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Biological Sciences, with the former serving as the administrative unit. By combining coursework from the disciplines of Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics, it caters to the growing demand for a new breed of scientists who have expertise in all these disciplines. In addition to coursework, the program also provides opportunities to gain practical experience by getting involved in research with faculty members.
Future- Graduates of the program seek positions such as Computational Biologists in Top Companies In USA.
Masters in Data Science
Why this course - Data Science specialists are expected to make informed architectural decisions based on a firm understanding of how available technologies differ and complement each other. As a Data Scientist, you will build and analyze predictive models from data using machine learning and statistical inference, program data science applications in high-level languages and extract patterns from large datasets using high-performance computing and distributed computing methods.
Masters in Engineering Management
Why this course - Engineering Management centers on planning, organizing, allocating resources, and directing and controlling activities that have a technological component. Engineering Managers possess both an ability to apply engineering principles and a skill in organizing and directing technical projects and people in technical jobs (American Society for Engineering Management).
Civil Engineering and Construction Management
Why this course -The Civil Engineering Advisory and Development Council This council consists of outstanding engineers and executives from industry and government in Southern California. Its function is to form a liaison between the University and industry and to keep the administration and faculty informed of modern engineering practices. This ensures that the curricula are kept up-to-date. It also advises on placement opportunities before and after graduation.
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Why this course - The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is supported by a professional Advisory and Development Council (ADC) comprised of outstanding engineers and executives from industry and government agencies in Southern California. The role of the ADC is to form a liaison between the University and industry and to help the administration and faculty remain informed of modern engineering practices and help with Continuous Improvement Process (CIP).
